As camp counselors, we were responsible for the delivery of the content to the children attending the camp. All camps varied in ages, from 5-year olds to 15-year olds. Every morning we would take it in turns to teach all the children a dance; for example the Macarena, Cha-Cha slide and the Hokey-Cokey. We delivered so many activities ranging from Easter egg hunts to etiquette lessons and mindfulness. We also taught them lots of English games such as ‘splat’, ‘wink wink murder’ and ‘heads down thumps up’ which they loved. Singing was also a huge part, Twinkle Twinkle little star and Heads down thumps up were favourites!
All of the Chinese staff were so helpful, welcoming and friendly. They taught us Mandarin and gave us a list of places to visit in Shanghai. The cultural excursions were really interesting, because it enabled us to see even more of China. We were able to visit a Temple, a calligraphy museum and go on boat trip around a wetland where dragon boat races are held. All of these things I wouldn’t have been able to do if I had gone to China independently.
